Advanced waterproofing protects iconic Adelaide Convention Centre

Hychem delivered a sophisticated, rapid-cure waterproofing and surfacing solution for the iconic Adelaide Convention Centre, a project requiring high levels of performance and compliance.

Working with Lendlease and the SA Department of Transport & Infrastructure, Hychem’s Matacryl® and VELOSIT® systems provided a fully trafficable, lightweight, and durable solution across a vast 5,750m² area.

The challenge

The redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre, a landmark project for South Australia, required a world-class waterproofing solution for a 5,750m² podium deck. The engineering specifications, overseen by Aurecon and Lendlease, demanded a system that was not only lightweight and highly durable but also offered exceptionally fast curing times to meet the demanding construction schedule and allow for immediate follow-on trades.

The engineered solution

A multi-layered Hychem system was engineered to meet every project requirement. The foundation was the Matacryl® RB System, a rapid-curing waterproofing membrane renowned for its flexibility and durability. This was complemented by the VELOSIT® SC 241, a high-performance, lightweight screed used for fall correction. The rapid-cure profile of the Matacryl® products was a critical advantage, enabling forklift traffic to proceed just one hour after the final membrane application, dramatically accelerating the project timeline.

The outcome

The project successfully delivered a robust, seamless, and fully compliant waterproofing solution for one of Adelaide’s most important public buildings. The system’s rapid-curing capability was instrumental in meeting the project’s tight deadlines, demonstrating Hychem’s ability to provide advanced material technologies that deliver critical time and cost savings on large-scale, high-profile developments.
